Overview of home learning:

*Please note that Friday is a school Inset Day, therefore the due date for some activities is Thursday. We have allowed you to continue with your writing on Friday if you wish.*

Maths:
This week’s maths will be revision of key fraction skills. If you need support, please ask and we will do our best to support you. The tasks will be posted each morning at 8am for you to complete on Google Classroom. Please self-mark before handing in. (Roughly 30 mins per day).

English:
The guidance for the next and last episode of your time-travel story is below. Keep up the good work, we are really starting to see those writing skills come through. (Roughly 1, to 1 and a half, hours in total).

Read chapters 1 and 2 and answer the question:

Stanley was a poor boy. He’d never been to camp before. What do these two sentences tell you about why he chose Camp Green Lake instead of jail? Do you think those two sentences make you think it was the right decision?

Writing Guidance:

Dear Year 6,
Thank you for all your brilliant story writing so far and thank you for all your positive comments about the activity. We have been really impressed with what you have sent us and it’s a real shame that these stories are now coming to an end. So let’s make sure that Episode 4 is the best one yet!

In this week’s episode, your character will travel back to their normal life. This needs to happen in the same or a similar way to the first time traveling event, so the main character may need to go back to a particular place, touch a certain object or hear a specific sound, for example. You will need to describe the time traveling event in a way that is familiar to the reader but not exactly the same as the first time– that would be boring to read!

Here are the decisions that you need to make BEFORE you start to write this final episode:
a) How will your character travel back to their normal life? What will they do/ touch/ hear to make this happen? Will they realise what is happening to them this time?
b) How will you describe the sensation of time travel? Remember to use senses, thoughts and emotions.
c) What is the first thing that your character will see when they arrive back? What will your character do or say? Will they be back in exactly the same place as when they left?
d) Will any time have passed while they’ve been gone? Will anyone else have noticed that they were missing? If yes, how will your character explain this?
e) What will the character have learned by travelling to a different time? How will it change their future behaviour? How will the experience have helped them to solve a problem or deal with an issue in their normal life?
f) Will your character remember their time spent in the past/future? Perhaps they have brought back a tiny object to prove that it really DID happen. ( I think this used to happen in the Biff and Chip stories – remember them?)

Here is what you need to do:
1. Make sure that you have responded to any feedback that you have been given for Episode 3. It is important for you to edit and improve your writing as you go along, just like we do at school. If you do not know how to edit and resubmit, send a message to your teacher.

2. Write Episode 4 where your character returns to their normal life. We would like to see at least 4 paragraphs but you can make it as long as you need to in order to include everything we’ve asked for. Remember, QUALITY not quantity.

3. Check that the new episode links with the previous ones and that there is some continuity in your ideas. It would be really impressive if you could link the end of the story back to something that you mentioned at the very beginning.

4. Before ‘turning in’ your work, check the following:
• Accurate punctuation throughout the whole piece. We want to see lots of commas in the right place!
• Lots of detailed description using carefully chosen vocabulary.

Please turn in Episode 4 of your Time Travel Story by the end of the week. You may type your writing in a Google Doc or handwrite it and send in a photo if you prefer. As always, you can message your class teacher and your classmates for support and advice as you go.
